The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc., an association based in Oakland, took in two small felines rescued from the sewers by Paterson Animal Control in early April 2022. The two kittens, named Leonardo and Donatella, have yet to fight for life triumphs despite this bad start.

“Kitten season,” from March to October, is a trying time for shelters such as the RBARI which ensures animal welfare in the north of the New Jersey, to the United States. Indeed, at that time, many litters of kittens were found in poor health in the wild, in cities and even in the sewers. This is the case of Leonardo and Donatellatwo kittens rescued from the cold and wet sewers of a city in the state by Paterson Animal Control. Deplorable living conditions that caused damage

Malnourished, injured and infected with internal parasites, the kittens had to struggle to regain a taste for life. The little male Leonardo, was injured in the back, preventing him from moving normally. The association’s veterinarians were unable to determine the exact causes of this injury.

Fortunately, the healers of the RBARI have provided adequate treatment and care for the pathologies resulting from the deplorable living conditions of the kittens.

From now on, Leonardo and Donatella (reference to the fictional characters of Ninja Turtles living in the sewers) have picked up the slack. They gain weight by eating with a fierce appetite and start playing again.

Even though Leonardo has yet to consult a neurologist to treat his serious back injury, their lives are no longer in danger.

the FOX 5 NY reports on April 28, 2022 that the two little specimens have been placed in foster care while waiting to be ready for adoption.

We know these helpless babies will never again feel the pangs of hunger and the biting cold of the damp sewers. They will never know the intense fear of dying alone again. » Declare it RBARI in a newsletter.
