Week after week, Carlos Alcaraz, winner of the Madrid Masters 1000 on Sunday, continues to dazzle the tennis world. Asked on Monday who beat him in Madrid, Novak Djokovic assured that the Spaniard was, for him, the current “ best player in the world” and ” definitely one of the big favourites” for Roland-Garros (May 22 – June 5).
“He’s different, that’s for sure. He breaks a lot of records at 19 years old. So far, he is the best player in the world, without discussion, this year, with the results he is getting”, added the Serb in front of the press, in Rome. As a reminder, Carlos Alcaraz successively beat Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev on his way to the title in Madrid. This is already his fourth title in 2022, after his successes at the ATP 500 in Rio and Barcelona, and at the Masters 1000 in Miami.
By beating Rafael Nadal and then Novak Djokovic in Madrid, Carlos Alcaraz became the first player to beat both legends in the same tournament on clay.
