Liverpool: Klopp at the break, Van Dijk tells

“We would have liked to play the whole match like in the second half,” said Jürgen Klopp after Liverpool qualified for the Champions League final, at the expense of Villarreal (2-0, 3-2). And for good reason: the first period of the Reds, led 2-0 at the break, is not to be shown in any football school. But, as revealed by Virgil van Dijk (30 years old, 8 matches in LdC this season), coach Jürgen Klopp was able to find the right words.

“He said to us, ‘Play football! Play the Liverpool way, like we’ve been doing all season! Take the ball, do a lot of movement with the ball and behind the back line. With the speed we have, we have to mix that too, and we need to show how badly we want to go to the final’. And in the end, in the second half, we played very well”, said the central defender after the game.
