Operation 30,000 apples for a guide dog for the blind in Castelsarrasin

the essential
Training a guide dog is expensive. This is why associations need donations throughout the year. In Castelsarrasin, an apple sales operation was a great success.

As part of its long-term activities for the benefit of the visually impaired, the Lions Club Castelsarrasin, helped by the clubs of Moissac and Beaumont-de-Lomagne, organized the “Operation 30,000 apples for a guide dog for the blind” at the end of April. . Objective: to collect funds intended to finance the training and the acquisition of guide dogs for the blind. This operation was held at the E.Leclerc center in Castelsarrasin, and was possible thanks to the generous donation of more than half a ton of apples by the BSO company.

The customers of the shopping mall, by making a donation of only €3, received in exchange a pocket of apples. Through this gesture of generosity, donors are helping the association Chiens Guides d’Aveugles to fulfill its mission and respond to a growing number of requests for guide dogs. As soon as they are trained, these dogs are given free of charge to visually impaired people in our region.

€15,000 for a guide dog

More than 120 guide dogs were given to visually impaired people. A revealing figure which proves that the association has grown well: improvement of educational techniques, expansion of premises, many foster families have volunteered, the salaried team has become more professional, the protocols for handing over dogs guides are organized around communication and exchange networks. All this thanks to the constantly renewed support of citizens and for the greatest pride of all: visually impaired people, host families, volunteers and employees.
