WEC Spa: Sébastien Buemi talks about the retirement of the #8 Toyota

When it’s time to relaunch the competitors in the 6 Hours of Spa, the Toyota GR010 HYBRID #8 of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa, which had finished second in the 1000 Miles of Sebring, will be missing. The new start is announced for 3:25 p.m.

While driving the #8, Sébastien Buemi stopped at the edge of the track before leaving for a few meters. In vain… The hybrid prototype finally stopped at the edge of the track.

“We don’t really know what happened”said Sebastien Buemi. “We tried to restart the car via a reset but the procedure did not work. The problem comes from the hybridization.

“The car managed to start again but the problem persisted. I had to stop and get out of the cockpit safely in an unacademic way. The warning in the car was red. not that anyone touches the car, hence my signs to the marshals.”

Toyota Gazoo Racing had lost the #7 at Sebring after going off the track and it is now the #8 which has retired at Spa-Francorchamps following a technical problem.
